England Wheelchair will face USA in Round 2 of their Rugby League World Cup journey (3 November, KO 7:30am).
After an emphatic win against Wales in the opening round, the squad are back and looking to deliver another strong performance against the USA.
Despite a huge scoreline, Captain Lewis King’s post-match thoughts highlighted some areas for improvement ahead of their next match:
“I thought it was two shaky starts in the first half and the second half and then it just took us a little while to get out of that uncomfortable 10 minutes in the beginning of each half, where we were making errors and we were just giving the ball away cheaply,” said King.
“Then they obviously scored off the back of it and we didn't defend our liners as connected as we wanted to.
“Overall, I think there was some really good stuff in there. I think we've got to be proud of the good stuff that we did as well.
“But, back to the drawing board and we'll fix up the stuff that we didn't get right and I'm sure we'll be better going into the next game.”
Friday’s Player of the Match, Rob Hawkins, also added:
“It wasn't the best match that we could have played, we definitely felt like we weren't playing to our standards against Wales, giving away silly errors and obviously giving away the points.
“But we're building. We're building so that we compete at the right time and I think today is that stepping stone really.
“We all played well together, and I think once we got into that floor, we played really great together as a team.”
In their opening game, the USA fell short to Ireland who put a dramatic 110 points against their 10.
In Round 2, they’ll be eager to get their first win under the belt in another tough battle to keep themselves within reach of a semi-final spot.
Similarly, a victory for England would secure their place in the final four, with one group game still left to play.
